Soaring with the Rainbows Chapter 6
Soarin flew above the endless sea of clouds. The shapes of dusty mist were just as expressive as the rolling hills of land, maybe more. They were bigger, but weaker, melting in the winter sun. Above him there was just emptiness, and the dead air of space. Below him, the cloud boiled and churned with exacting slowness, forever moving.
He punched through the tip of a raincloud, slicing his wing through the grey misty haze. This was what he loved about being a flier. The freedom, the everlasting sunshine above the dirty grey layer. He couldn't imagine having to live a life imprisoned on the ground.
Soarin was nearing Ponyville, his destination. After Spitfire had let the B squad take care of the shows for the next week she'd given him the leave to go see Rainbow. After what had happened the last time he'd come here, he was hoping this would go better. I mean, sure, Rainbow had come to see him in the weeks he'd been in Canterlot, training his tail off, but this was only the second time he'

not without the children of the sun and moon
to guide her weary lids home.

To him they were reflections of pages overlooked.
She said it was like she lived the life of someone she had never met.
Laid out to dry, yesterdays news.
He knew her as the girl who was built to never collapse.
He wished he was too.
He loved her more than words could say, and yet her pain was such,
that at times, he feared she wouldn’t make it.
But on nights like these, even when it threatened to consume her,
he became convinced that somehow she would.
